4.30.13- The fishing has been good with a lot of drop-backs through the river. Lake fishing is also heating up with Browns and Lakers. Looking to book a charter.... we have openings and the weather looks great as far as the forecast is predicting....

Until 9:00 PM today, 1,250 CFS
From 9:00 PM today until 11:59 PM 900 CFS

4.27.13- Well we hit the lake today with Shawn Sandison's crew to do brown trout fishing and we managed a few fish for the boys. The lake conditions were great but fishing was very tough. The bite should improve over the next week. Keep you posted.

4.24.13- Well the water is dropping and the fishing is heating up on the water! I’ve been getting reports that the last 2 days have been fantastic on the water. Lake fishing is also picking up with good numbers of nice sized brown in 8 – 12 FOW. We are getting thunderstorms this evening with gusty winds. Tomorrow isn’t looking to good weather wise but a nice dry warming trend is coming. I was up by the upper reservoir today and its full but not too bad. There also wasn’t a lot of snow left either…. Hopefully the flooding is over and the end of our spring dropback season can begin! Probably have about another 2 weeks of dropback steelhead season left… We have been working on getting the boat ready for our first trip on Saturday. I’ll have another report Friday afternoon after our shakedown cruise on Lake Ontario! Until then…

Until 11:59 PM Thu APR 25, 1,250 CFS

4.21.13- Until 11:59 PM Mon APR 22, 3,500 CFS

4.21.13-Well the sun is shining and the temps are cool but the Salmon River is still really big and dangerous!
“Extremely high flows are now passing through the spill gates at the Dam. Severe flooding conditions are present. Please stay away from the river and any flooded areas. Please be alert for, and follow, all local warnings and emergency notifications.

Until 11:59 PM today, Sun, 5,500 CFS”

The creeks up North are also running high but everything is slowing receding. A good amount of fish in the creeks but with this high water you will see them scooting back pretty fast. We are getting ready to crank up our charter season with our first trip on Saturday. Not sure about any trip on the river this week but we are going to be working on the boat to get her ready for the maiden charter with Shawn Sandison! I’ll keep you posted on water levels and try to get a hold of what’s going on with the fishing in the next couple of days. Until then…

4.18.13 & 4.19.13 -Kevin Wiater and his group came up for a 2 day trip for some spring steelhead fishing and Mother Nature threw us a big time curve ball. Extremely high water and heavy winds made the fishing very difficult. We managed to get into a few fish & created 2 new centerpin fishermen. Mike and Kevin did very well for being first timers on the pin setups. The guys worked hard for the fish they got and hopefully next time they will have it a little easier.

4.9.13-Ken was back to do allittle spring steelie fishing and the night before the trip they raised the river which made the fishing conditions difficult the next day. Ken ended up 2 for 5 on this outing, all dropbacks.

3.26.13-Ken was back on the river and had a pretty good day of fishing in the douglaston salmon run.
The majority of the steelies we hooked into were 4 to 6lb chromers. Not very big but they were all great fighters. Chartreuse and blue sacs did the job today.

3.23.13-Well between yesterday and today, the reports have been good. Seeing a good mixture of fresh, spawning, & dropbacks throughout the river. Flies, egg sacs, and beads have been productive throughout this river. The DSR reported a good day by their anglers on the water yesterday. We received about 2 feet of snow since the 1st day of spring in Pulaski but the Redfield area seen a lot more! Temperatures are moderating in the upper 30’s but nighttime lows are still in the upper 20’s. The surrounding creeks have also been seeing a spring run of fish. Not sure what’s going on with water flows but they lowered it from 900 c.f.s. to 500 c.f.s last night and there is no update as I post this report. I’ll have another report in a few days…. Until then…

Until 11:59 PM Thu MAR 28, 500 CFS

Until 11:59 PM Wed MAR 20, 900 CFS

3.8.13-Fishing have been on the slower side the last couple of days with the reports we have been receiving. It's transition time, but as weather and water levels moderate, look for fishing to improve- 50’s are in the forecast for the weekend! Spring is in the air! Flies, egg sacs, and beads are all working pretty good. Fish are spread out throughout the river and the best reports have been coming from the middle section of the Salmon River. Starting to see a lot more drop backs these days! If you interested in booking a trip (bank or drift boat) … Give me a call to book in your date! Also, we are currently booking charters for the upcoming season, we have had a number of calls coming in the past week…. So if you are interested in a date, call now before it’s gone! Hoping to launch the boat around April 15th and start charters around the 22nd… I’ll keep you posted. Looks like it’s going to be another fantastic year of lake fishing and I will also be back as Captain for the boat for a few trips this year as needed! So bring the wife and kids, bachelor party, birthday and so on!  It’s going to be a lot of fun!  Mark your calendars for the PA Outdoor Life Expo in PA April 4 – 7, 2013 at the Lycoming Mall. Johnny will be down there booking trips for the upcoming season and answering questions. We’ll have some great charters discounts, so stop by, say hi, and book the trip of a lifetime! That’s it for today… Hope to have another report for the weekend….
Until 11:59 PM Tue MAR 12, 900 CFS

2.26.13-A nice day to be on the water, a slushy start but the temps warmed up quickly. The fish did not seem to mind as ken caught them through the slush and the whole rest of the day. We had a good bite going on with a mix of fresh & dark fish. All of the steelies were on the smaller side today 4 to 8 lbs.

2.12.13-Well ken was back after a two week hiatus and he couldn't have picked a better day fishing wise. We were into fish all day long with a mix of fresh & dark steelies ranging from 3 to 12 lbs. The 30mph winds made it tough getting good hooksets but ken did a good job and alot of steelies made it to the net!

1.16.13-Ken was back on the river today and the fish wanted to play. Ended up fighting a dozen and landing seven . Most of the steelies were average size and on the silver side. Egg sacs produced the best today with only three fish on beads.

1.14.13-Fished today with Greg Saffares and once again the fishing in the dsr was on the slower side. We fished hard and covered a lot of water. We ended up landing 3 & losing 3, however the first fish landed was the biggest of the year so far and that made the day! Good job Greg!!!

1.12.13-Today Ken Corvo brought his son Kirk up to try and get him his first steelhead. It was not a banner day by no means in the lower end of the river today, we worked hard for the fish and persistence payed off. Kirk landed his first two steelies today and Ken got one, with a few never making it to the net.

1.9.13 & 1.10.13-Dan was back to do a little winter steelhead fishing & his two day trip turned out pretty good. Playing with close to twenty steelies and landing about half. Beads produced most of the fish with blue sacs coming in a close second over the course of two days.

1.8.13-Ken was back today after a couple weeks off for the holidays and he had a decent day on the water. The am was slow but the fishing picked up as the day went on. Ken ended up landing 6 & losing 4 this trip.

Until 11:58 PM Wed JAN 09, 285 CFS

12.12.12-Well the fish decided to show up today for Greg, Paul & Steve! The boys had pretty good action today with the morning bite being the best. We picked at them the rest of the day. Eggs sacs were the top producer, color did not seem to be a factor this trip

12.9.12-Dan Schoonmaker was back again for a two day trip and this time we had to work hard for the bites he got. The fish just didn't want to cooperate for some reason. Dan ended up hooking nine steelies & landing two, not terrible but not what we expected. I guess that's fishing though.

12.4.12-Out with Ken today and we had decent action, hooking up about a dozen times landing 50% of the fish. All the steelhead were in the 5 to 8 lb. range.

11.27.12-Fished with Ken today and we had pretty good action throughout the day. Beads accounted for most of the fish in the morning, egg sacs in white & blue did the damage in the afternoon. Most of the fish were smaller 6 to 7 pounders with a few bigger ones in the mix.

11.25.12-Fished today with Craig Wu & his fiancée Jenna, both were first timers on the salmon river and looks like they picked a good day to try their luck. The first two casts they were locked up, the rest of the day we saw pretty steady action. Ended the day a little early but overall the couple had a great first time steelhead experience !!!

Week of 11.24.12- This is Matt with a report for the week of Thanksgiving. Fished with Josh and Steve out west and we did pretty well on the browns. Not the big number of rainbows which had been the case in years past, but there were enough to be fun, and even a few steelhead to keep us on our toes. We fished the Oak and surrounding tribs, flows were good until Wednesday until they turned the flow completely off at the dam. In spite of the terrible flow, there was a good bite right at the dam in the morning, which completely died off once the sun got high. All in all a good fun week with lots of laughs and plenty of fish landed.

11.20.12- Ken was here and the fishing improved. We fought over a dozen steelies and a few rainbows. What a difference a day makes! We caught mostly average size steelies with two big boys eluding the net. I have the next few days off for hunting and the holiday's. Have a Happy Thanksgiving everyone !!!

11.19.12- Fished today with Harold Rinko and unfortunately for him it was the slowest day of the season for us so far but we did manage to fight two steelies and land one. Not many new fish around and I think that the incredible fishing pressure from the weekend sent the resident steelhead packing. Conditions will improve shortly. Keep you posted.

11.17.12 &11.18.12-The salmon river fished very well for Giuseppe Butti on his two day trip. Day one was the better of the two with consistent action all day and big steelhead. Day two was on the slower side, we had to work for the fish and they were smaller today. It was a good two days on the water.

11.16.12-Fished today with Mark & Eric who were both new to steelhead fishing. The morning bite was very good and the guys had a blast for the first few hours. We picked at them the rest of the day & once again many fish never made it to the net. Oh well I guess that's why they call it fishing & not catching.

11.15.12-Today Bob, Scott & Gary decided to put the fly rods down & pick the spinning rods up and do a little float fishing. The guys had a blast, a lot of fish and a lot of laughs. The problem today was keeping the fish buttoned, many steelies got away, oh well that's fishing folks!

11.14.12-Fished with Chris Dupont today who is fairly new to  centerpin fishing. The morning started off great, a bunch of hookups but not many came to the net until we got the kinks out. Chris lost a very big steelhead today, so close to the net it was a
heartbreaker. There was a lull here and there in the action but overall it was a good day on the river.

11.13.12-Ken was back and so were the big steelies unfortunately the four biggest got away. We had decent action almost all day long, switching colors often worked the best for us today.

11.11.12 & 11.12.12-Had a two day trip with Dan Shoonmaker from Accord, New York. Day one was the better of the two, we hit a mix of steelies, browns & bows with pretty steady action all day long. Day two Dan worked for all his fish, it was a slow pick with not many fresh fish around but all in all Dan had a good two days on the water.

11.10.12- It was a very slow and crowed day on the salmon river. Victor, Craig & Milenko worked very hard for the fish they got. The fish were there but the bite was not.

11.8.12- Well today Shawn & Scott had to work hard for the fish they got. Deffinetly one of the slower days this season in the DSR. The bite never materialized today like it did the previous few trips, it was a slow pic all day long. We ended the day 5 for 10, not too bad but a far cry from what fishing has been like.

11.7.12- Fished today with Bill Gleavy who is new to steelhead fishing on the salmon river. The morning started off slow but the action heated up as the day went on. Bill battled over a dozen steelies, four of which were in the teens and gave him a good fight but ended up getting away . Not a bad introduction to steelhead fishing today for Bill. Out again tomorrow..keep you posted.

11.6.12- Ken was back for more today, the morning bite was ok but around noon things started happening. Ken hooked into a lot of steelies but the just didn't want to stay attached. Most of the fish were on the smaller side and very lite biters today not as aggressive as they have been. Cold nights and dropping river temperatures sometimes makes mister steelhead moody.

11.5.12-Well Fished today with Eric Wilby & his friend Hal. It was a slower day today we worked hard  & ended up 5 for 10. When the fish adjust to the colder water temperature the bite will improve.

11.4.12-Well Steve decided to use his new centerpin today and leave the spinning setup at home and needless to say he won't be switching back. Steve hooked 16 steelhead landing 7 ,not to bad for a beginner pinner. More than half the fish today were nice size fish 10 plus lbs. with a few smaller ones mixed in. Be back out tomorrow keep you updated !!!

11.1.12-Fished today with Ken Corvo and it was a pretty good 1/2 day fly fishing despite the crappy weather. Landing 5 and lost 6 oh well ya can't get them all I guess but the last one of the day was a heartbreaker a very large silver bullet got away on us. I will be off the water the next two days doing alittle hunting. Be back out Sunday with Steve Potchney from Pa. Till then good fishing everyone!

10.31.12-Greg had a day on the water today that steelhead fishermen dream about. It started with the first cast "fish on"! Unbelieveable action all day long no matter where we went, Greg battled close to if not 50 steelhead, landing 20 some fish, I lost count! The  second best part besides the fishing was that we saw not a soul till 12:00! No real big fish today they ranged between 6 to 10 lbs. I'll be back out tomorrow ... Keep ya updated !

10.26.12 & 10.27.12-Had a two day trip with Paul Priggon his friend Michelle & Matt who joined us on the second day. We had a good first day despite the high dirty water and a ton of leaves in the river. Fishing the edges close to shore did the trick for us on Friday. Saturday morning started off well but the action slowed as the day went on . The guys hooked a decent number of steelies & a couple of browns but unfortunately most fish never made it to the net. I will be off the river for a few days due to hurricane sandy and the weather she's bringing with her. Hopefully it's not going to be as bad as they say, we will see.... Keep you updated.

10.25.12-Fishing this morning was good but as the temperatures increased, the fishing decreased. Warm southerly winds and bright sun put the fish down as the day progressed. On top of the warm tempatures the leaf hatch was in full swing making fishing tough. We are forcasted to get potentially 10 inches of rain in the next week, and it looks like they are raising the river in anticipation. Johnny will be back on the water tomorrow with Paul Priggan, check out our on the river reports on facebook, and I'll have another report tomorrow. Until then...

10.24.12 -Steve Richards was back again and had another slammer of a day! Steady action all day long again with some darker steelies mixed in with the chromers

10.23.12 -Another great day on the water with David Coult and his buddy Will. Steady fishing all day long and the steelies got bigger as the day progressed. Around a dozen came to the net and that many if not more got away.

10.22.12 -Another great day on the water with David Coult and his buddy Will. Steady fishing all day long and the steelies got bigger as the day progressed. Around a dozen came to the net and that many if not more got away.

10.21.12 Fished today with Mike Simone & his girl Lisa. Despite the 20 to 30 mph winds and a ton of leaves to deal with Lisa had a awesome first time fishing experience landing some big beautiful steelhead and losing a bunch as well but Mike ended up with the bruiser of the day !

10.20.12 Fished today with Walt & Walt, the father and son team had a good day on the water, I'd have to give the edge to Jr. though in the fishing department but Sr. Deffinetly won the salmon river acrobatics part of the competition. All in all it was a fun & productive day on the river!

10.19.12 -Derrick and Pete wanted to do alittle fly fishing today and this being their first time for steelhead they both did very well. Both guys were into fish almost all day long landing  a dozen between them and losing a bunch as well!

10.18.12 -Tough fishing today with Ken Corvo due to strong winds and a lot of leaves in the river. But we still managed to get into a half dozen steelhead.

10.17.12 -Fished today with Steve Richards and it was an all out steelhead bonanza! Steve was into fish all day long, most of the trout were on the smaller side 5 to 7 pounds with a few bigger ones mixed in. He will be back out next week to try his luck again. It will be tough to duplicate today's fishing but we are going to try.

10.15.12 -Frank DeGaetano along with Mike, Frank & Mal came up for their annual trip to the salmon river to do a little steelhead fishing and they were not disappointed. All the guys had consistent action all day long, it was a great day on the river. I will be back on the river Wednesday for a long stretch till the end of October.  Will keep you updated here & a few times a day on Facebook ...... Thankyou for following !

10.12.12 -Tracy, Dwayne & Gene had a fantastic day of fishing on the mighty salmon river. A very good presence of steelhead today mixed with some nice fresh kings. We had a great morning bite and a steady pick the rest of the day!

10.11.12 -Fished today with Hugh Green & his buddy Heath. The action was a little slower today mostly due to the high winds and lake effect rains but we still managed to land some nice fish.

10.8.12 & 10.9.12 -We had a 2 day trip with Shane Thomas "The Salmon River Guide's" crew John, John, Steve & Mike. The dynamic duo joined forces for an all out assault in the DSR! Both days we saw a good mix of kings & steelhead with a few coho's as well. The boys got into more trout on the second day of their trip. All in all it was a good outing for the guys and everyone got into fish.

10.5.12-Ruff lowman and his son Alex wanted to try alittle salmon fishing this time around & the day started off great. The first 4 kings they landed ranged between 25 to 34 pounds! Once again early to mid morning provided us with the best action with a steady pic the rest of the day.

10.4.12-Had a good time on the river today with Mike, Rick & little Rick. The morning bite was very good but the action slowed a bit toward the end of the trip. Little Rick did very well for his first time salmon fishing, and we cannot forget to thank mike for keeping us entertained with his salmon river acrobatics!

10.3.12-Fished with John Segerson & his two boys Conlin & Rj today and it was another stellar day of salmon wrangling in the dsr. Lite crowds and tons of fish what more could you ask for? The Segerson crew left with sore arms and some great memories.

9.29.12-Newcomers to the salmon river Mike Romano & his son Jesse couldn't have picked a better day, great weather and fantastic fishing. Hooking up was not a problem we had a little issue in the landing department but we straightened that out & by the end of the day the boys were doing great !!!

9.27.12-Fished today with Kevin Brown & his girlfriend Nelly  I knew it was going to be a good day because within the first couple casts they doubled and landed 2 nice kings to start off the morning. The rest of the day consisted of many more hookups, most were kings with a few cohos around as well.... Keep you Posted !

9.25.12-Fished today with Kevin Brown & his girlfriend Nelly  I knew it was going to be a good day because within the first couple casts they doubled and landed 2 nice kings to start off the morning. The rest of the day consisted of many more hookups, most were kings with a few cohos around as well.... Keep you Posted !

9.24.12-Fished today with Nate L & his father Tom and the river once again was full of fish. They both had a blast with consistent action almost all morning long. Mostly kings with cohos mixed in will be back out in the am keep us updated!

9.22.12-Fished today with Joe Guidice & his friend Chris and I know I sound like a broken record but once again the fishing was excellent. All kings again today no signs of any steelhead or brown trout yet. Back on the river monday will keep you posted.

9.21.12-Had the pleasure of fishing with Kim Bult & her husband Keith who was just a spectator & there for moral support today. Kim had a fantastic morning of fishing. Keith watched her hook, fight, land & lose countless numbers of kings with a few nice cohos mixed in. On the water tomorrow keep ya posted.

9.20.12-Ken Corvo was back at it again this morning and once again the fishing was fantastic. All kings again today, still waiting for a good push of coho's. Maybe tomorrow... We will See.

9.17.12-Back to the river today with Ken Corvo and again the fishing was lights out many many king salmon made there way past us all day long. Ken called it quits around noon because he said he couldn't fight another fish and he wanted to rest his arm for his next trip on Thursday.....

9.16.12-Back out on the lake today with Steve Jones & crew and we had good action all day. The boys tangled with mostly coho's with a few kings and browns mixed in. We worked 100 to 130 fow, temperature is deep right now and most of our fish came close to the bottom.

9.15.12-First trip on the river this year & Steve jones & company got to enjoy a beautiful day on the river & some of the finest salmon fishing that I have ever seen. All kings today and they were moving pretty fast despite fhe low water condition

9.10.12 p.m.-Well it was a good afternoon of salmon bashing with Mike B. in 100 - 120 FOW. Also had a few reports of a good push of kings in the lower end of the DSR. Johnny will be back on the lake Tomorrow morning. Have another report tomorrow evening. Until then.....

Until 11:58 PM Fri SEP 14, 185 CFS

9.10.12 a.m.-Johnny was out with Bill Baker, his wife and another couple and we had a decent pick going all morning. Lost a bunch in the dipseys but they stuck to the riggers and copper. Another windy, wavy day with a good bite in 100 - 120 FOW.

9.8.12-Johnny was out with Rich Kurchock and crew and despite gale force winds, big waves, and a rope around the prop it was not a bad trip for the boys from PA. Ended up 5 for 9 in 70 - 90 FOW.  It was a good morning bite but as the wind kicked up around 9:30 AM the fishing slowed. We postponed out afternoon trip till Monday morning. I'll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then....

9.7.12-Well today there were some good reports from the DSR. I heard that there were also a few fish being reported as far up as the Town Pool. We received some much needed rain but it was  only enough to raise the water a tad. Th river temperature cooled off a few degrees with the rain. I didn't get much in lake reports but Johnny will be out tomorrow morning on a charter.  He'll have updates on Facebook and I'll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then....

Until 11:58 PM Sun SEP 09, 185 CFS

9.6.12-Hit the lake today with Doug & Claire Mosall and what a day it was. The newlyweds were battling fish all morning long, every rod on the boat was moving at some point during the trip. It was salmon fishing at its finest on Lake Ontario

9.4.12-Well the rain arrived and we got a few hours of rain. There were a few good heavy downpours....Hopefully it was good enough to put a dent in our drought. The DSR reported another push of fish today but I was unable to get a first hand look. It's still raining now and the winds are blowing. Wonder what it will do to the lake and river fishing.... On another note: night fishing for salmon is upon us, if you would like to go, give us a call and We'll "hook" you up. Also, we have a few dates available on the charter boat before the he of the season. Don't miss one of the best years of fishing! Call us to get booked in... (315)-298-3992, I'll have another report tomorrow vending. Until then.....

9.3.12 p.m.-Johnny was out with Steve Jones and his wife on a last minute idea for a charter... I stopped over the 1880 House and we telling Linda about the fishing on the lake and Steve (who is our client 2 weeks from now) was there and him and his wife decided to go try lake fishing.... Well needless to say, it was a great choice to make. Darlene and Steve fought a bunch of fish... Separate and together, (singles, doubles, and even a triple so that even Jason was able to get in on the fun) and had a blast!!!!! They also boxed out in a few short hours! On another note, the DSR was reporting some movement if kings in the lower end of the river... We'll see if it keeps up. Tomorrow looks like there is some rain on the way. Hopefully we get more than they are calling for, we really need it. Johnny will be off the water until Thursday AM. I'll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then..

9.3.12 a.m.-We were out with Dave Johnson and crew and we were out a little deeper today (140 -160 FOW) and ended up boxing out by 10 AM! Kings and cohos...... Talk about a great year for fishing the lake!!!!!!!!

9.2.12 p.m.-Fished the afternoon with Eric Green and his son and it was a slow pic all afternoon with a few doubles mixed in. We lost a bunch of fish but ended up with another full box of bigger kings with one over 30lbs!

9.2.12 a.m.-Fished the AM with warren Koloziejski and family and what a trip it was. I know I'm sounding like a broken record but the fishing was once again fantastic! Dipseys, riggers, copper all took fish.ended the trip with a full box of kings and cohos!!!!!!!

9.1.12-We had a pm charter with the Rob Hadeka crew and it was an all out slam fest. Multiple hookups all afternoon long. Every rod took fish, the two biggest of the trip were 31 and 32 pounds. It was a great day to be on beautiful lake Ontario!

8.30.12-Fished this morning with the fountain crew and we had a blast. Lots of fish and alot of big waves but we ended the day with a nice box of kings and cohos!

8.27.12 p.m.-Was out the first time this year and took the little guy on his first charter!!!! Sue Brown (boss and Broker from TugHill real estate) and her 2 kids Tyler and Savannah also came with us. Started off a little slow but within a short time we were reeling them in!!!! Sue, Tyler, & Savannah all boated their first kings!!!! All in all it was a good day with lots of fish and lots of laughs!!!!!

8.27.12-We fished this morning with the Jim Thibadue crew on the big pond and the fish were very cooperative in the hitting department but staying attached was another story. We dropped 10 but we still ended the day with a nice box !

8.26.12-This is Matt giving the report for Sunday morning and evening: While I'm usually behind the computer as the NY Fishtales webdork, I had the pleasure of fishing the morning and evening on the lake with Capt. John & company. The fishing was consistent all day, but really heated up in the evening as the lake laid down. We had lots of laughs, landed lots of kings, some cohos and a nice 12 pound brown. I'm hoping that sometime (later in the week perhaps), my shoulders will stop aching. Now is definitely the time to get some great king action on the lake- I'm happy I got to see it first hand! Now for some more advil and an ice pack...

8.25.12 Afternoon-Saturday's pm trip was an absolute slam fest and Damian pec crew got to enjoy some of the most amaizing fishing Lake Ontario has to offer.  Multiple hookups all afternoon and every rod on the boat was going. We had over 30 bites on this pm charter with the majority of them being king salmon & a few nice cohos mixed in

8.25.12 Morning-Josh Saunders crew was onboard for Saturday morning's trip. We had a good bite going on early then the action slowed down to a fish here & there the rest of the day. Alot of the fish unfortunately never made it to the net.

8.22.12.-Fished with Mike Tingey & company this morning and what a morning it was, we had a steady bite of big kings and nice cohos all day

8.20.12.-Had a pm trip that started a little later than scheduled because of a bee sting oh well. The Bruce zero crew had a great afternoon of fishing with many hookups unfortunately most got away but we landed some beauties including a huge king just shy of 31lbs and some nice cohos !

It was a steady pick at the kings all afternoon yesterday. They worked 120 – 160 FOW and the dipseys and copper produced the best. The boated 7 fish and lost a few others after a brief fight. This morning was a short 3 hr trip thanks to the strong west winds that cranked up the lake to 6 footers. They still managed to tangle with a few kings but only managed to get one in the boat. Johnny will be back on the lake tomorrow with a double. I should have another report by tomorrow evening….

4.26.12-Johnny was out on the lake with Tiny for the shakedown trip on the boat. Everything was working great and the fishing was also really good. They didn't have to go far out of Mexico Point. 8 - 10 FOW early morning then slid out to 20 - 25 FOW. Bigger browns and a good late morning bite. Alewife Glow Back, Rosemary's Baby, & Johnny's Buster were the hot spoons. Black and silver stickbaits off of the boards were also working. We have rescheduled tomorrow's and Saturday's trip since they are calling for big wave. I hope to have another report after Sunday's trip. Until then...

4.16.12-Johnny was out with Rick Beaudette, Frank and Steve from MA and it was a great morning for drop back steelhead. They fished for a 1/2 day and got into a good amount of fish. I've added the pics from the biggest fish each one landed. I was a mix of flies and egg sacs. The water was 285 cfs and temperatures are climbing into the low 80's. After the showers pass tonight temperatures are going to fall back to more seasonable temperatures. Johnny will be off the river but he will be working to get the boat in by Wednesday. I'll have another report when we get the boat in the water.... Until then......

4.11.12-Johnny was out with Ken Cestone today and it was a good day on the water. Ken managed to land 7 steelies and lost another 8. Most of the fish were drop backs  which were turning back to their silver lake colors. The one steelie Ken landed was a freshie. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. Johnny will be off the water for the next couple of days. I'll have another report this weekend. Until then.....

Until 11:59 PM Thu APR 12, 285 CFS

4.9.12-Johnny was out with Ken Corvo today for a half day and despite the gale force winds he managed to get into a decent amount of fish. He ended up 3 for 7 on the fly rod using the indicators. The winds were gusty and it stayed overcast all day. The water is still 285 c.f.s. and is projected through tomorrow.  Johnny will be off the water tomorrow but will be back out on Wednesday. I'll have another report Wednesday evening. Until then......

4.5.12-Johnny was out with Jim Berry today it was one of those days that they had to work for them. They covered a lot of water and ended up 3 for 7 on the fly rod. He did manage to land a beautiful drop back closer to the end of the trip. The water is low (285 c.f.s.) and very clear. Johnny will be off the water the next couple of days but will be back out next week. I'll have another report in a few days. Until then.....

Until 11:59 PM today, Fri, 285 CFS

4.3.12-Johnny was out with Ken Cestone and the day started off with one here and one there but got really good by late morning into early afternoon. They took 2 photos of the biggest fish they landed and had well over 30 fish on today on the bobbers and egg sacs / beads). There were a few fresh steelies but of the fish today were drop backs. Johnny stated that the fishing was "silly" with fish by the afternoon. Johnny will be off the water tomorrow  but he will be back in the water Thursday with Jim Berry. I'll have another report Thursday evening. Until then......

Until 11:59 PM Thu APR 05, 285 CFS

4.2.12-Johnny will be on the water with ken Cestone tomorrow. Have a report tomorrow evening. Johnny will have updates from the water on Facebook........

Until 4:00 PM tomorrow, Tue, 500 CFS
From 4:00 PM tomorrow until 11:59 PM tomorrow, 285 CFS

3.31.12-Johnny was on the water with Ruff Lowman and his son Alex and it was a tough day with not a lot of Fish around in the lower river. We thought it was going to be much better with the water going down to 500 CFS, but the fish definitely didn't want to cooperate. They hooked a few fish with the fly rods but didn't get any to the net. The angling pressure was lite  very little early in the morning but As the morning went on the angling pressure increased. Johnny will be off the water the next couple of days, but he will be back on the river with Ken Cestone on Tuesday. I'll have another updated report Tuesday evening. Don't forget Lake charter season will be starting up April 15th, hurry up and get your dates booked for Lake Browns before they're all filled up!!!!!!!

3.29.12- Until 11:59 PM today, Thu, 900 CFS

3.26.12-Johnny was out with Gary Todice and John from Shelton CT and it was a good day on the water. A lot colder than the last week (temps made it up to near 30) and the fish were on the egg sacs. It was a mixed bag with spawned out steelies and a few freshies on the bobbers and egg sacs. This was Gary’s and John’s first time here!!!! Looks like a hard freeze is on the way for tonight and a little warmer for tomorrow with less wind. Johnny will be off the water the next few days. Have another report this weekend. Until then…

Until 9:00 PM today, 1,500 CFS
From 9:00 PM today until 11:59 PM tomorrow, Tue, 1,200 CFS

3.19.12-Johnny was out with Mark Misiewicz from CT and talk about a tough day on the water. He hooked 2 and got a beauty almost to the net. Other than that, it was really slow in the lower end. I guess the mid 70’s doesn’t make good steelhead weather in mid March. Tomorrow look for warmer temperatures and to add insult to injury, the water is climbing (I have no idea why) to 1800 c.f.s.. Hopefully the power company has a back up plan for when they run out of water:-( The reports from the rest of the river were also slow. Johnny did mention the massive amounts of stoneflies around today.
Johnny will be off the water the next couple of days. I’ll have another report when something changes…

3.18.12-Well Pulaski hit 78 degrees today.... Wow and it's not even spring yet:-) The next few days look like the will be in the 70's also!!!!! Today was a little slower on the river from the reports I've been receiving and there are a lot of drop backs throughout the river. Johnny will be on the river with Mark from CT tomorrow. I'll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then

Until 11:59 PM Mon MAR 19, 1,200 CFS

3.12.12- Until 11:59 PM WedUntil 11:59 PM Tue MAR 13, 1,200 CFS

3.7.12- Johnny was out with Ken Cestone today and it was a decent day on the water. Ken hooked a good amount of fish but getting them in the net seemed to be the issue. He did land a few but they were little guys. All fish were caught on bobbers and egg sacs. There was an increase in fishing pressure today due to the warm (62 degree!!!) temperatures!!! The fishing has been off and on the last few days throughout the whole river. Stonefly imitation, egg sacs and beads have been the baits of choice. There have been numerous reports of a lot of dropbacks in the system already. Few freshies mixed in but not many. The surrounding creeks have been producing fish but it has been a hit and miss situation. There have been a few reports of browns being caught at the mouths of the creeks and rivers in 7 – 10 FOW trolling stick baits. Johnny will be off the water for a few days. Have another report next week. Until then…..

2.28.12- Until 11:59 PM Wed FEB 29, 500 CFS

2.21.12-Johnny was out with ken Cestone today and the morning was better than the afternoon. Ken managed to go 3 for 10 with most fish getting off after a brief fight. All fish were caught on the bobbers, egg sacs, & beads. Johnny will be back out tomorrow with Steve Searle for a few hours. Have another report tomorrow evening. Until then......

2.17.12-Another good day on the water with Ken Corvo. Purple jawbreakers and black bead heads were the ticket today to Ken's success on the fly rod. These were 2 of the fish that they took pictures of today. There were a few othersvand a good amount that got away after a brief fight. A good amount of fishermen around for the President's Day weekend. Weather is really great and the water is perfect for getting around. Johnny will be off the water but will be back out next week. I'll have bother report n a few days.  Until then....

Until 11:59 PM Tue FEB 21, 500 CFS

2.16.12-Well the water finally is down and Johnny and Ken were able to get out and do some steelhead fishing. Ken had a very good day on the water but no big ones around. The one pic they did takes shows the average size for the day. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. Johnny will be back on the water with Ken Corvo tomorrow. Have another report tomorrow evening. Until then......

Until 11:59 PM Fri FEB 17, 500 CFS

10.1.11- Well Johnny was out with Rich Meyer and his son Robbie from NJ and it was a good day on the water. It took a little while for them to get going since they are new to fly fishing but once the got the hang of it…. It was “fish on”! The fishing was good in the morning and slowed down for a while but picked back up towards the end of the trip. The only landed 3 kings but had a lot of hook-ups! All of the fish today were kings. Johnny went down to the estuary this afternoon and there was not a lot of action down there either. A few small pods of kings here and there but nothing really major to report. The vampire crews rowing the lake at night are getting kings….. so there is where your big run of fish sits and waits. The cold front and rain is on the way, hopefully that will get things kicking up into high gear. Look for falling temperatures the next few days with temperatures in the low 50’s for high with showers on the weekend. Johnny will be on the water with Jim Nash tomorrow. After a few hours they called it quits. They did manage to get out on Thursday afternoon but the lake was still big and the fishing was a little tougher. Johnny will be back out on Saturday. Have another report then…

8.20.11 - Johnny was out with Kelly Conklin and his 2 sons Kelly and Mike. The fishing was a little slower than yesterday...... Johnny will be back put-on tuesday. Another report then.....

8.14.11 - Sorry I haven’t had any reports lately but we’ve been quite busy welcoming a new member to our family. John Patrick was born July 31, 2011 at 2:20 p.m. at 7 lbs 15 ozs and 21 ½ inches long. Things are settling down a little and Johnny will be out on the water later this week. A few days ago we had a good blow and the reports are that kings are in 120 – 180 FOW. Haven’t had any reports from this weekend but as soon as I hear something I will let you know. Looks like salmon season is knocking on our door step with September fast approaching and dates are starting to go. Also lake fishing will be heating up and we still have morning and afternoon charters available. Don’t forget the LOC derby will also be starting so if you book a charter go to www.loc.org and get your derby pass for all who are on the charter and get entered in the chance to win $20,00 grand prize with $52,800 in cash prizes from August 18th Sept 4th. I’ll have another report in a few days. Until then…

7.28.11 - Well today was a good day for cookie-cutter salmon. They ended up 9 for 14 with 3 of the big boys getting off and only 1 big king making it to the boat. All fish were caught in 140 – 180 FOW. Riggers were producing down 95 – 105 feet. All of the little guys were in the 5 – 7 lb range. Chartreuse Spin Doctors with Green Crinkle and Hammer flies have been the hot choice! Other boat are still doing really well in close with the Brown Trout. Johnny will be on the lake with Bill Sabel and his crew for a charter tomorrow. Check Facebook for reports from the lake and I should have another report when he gets back. Until then…

7.27.11 - Johnny was out with Glen Stirling and his 2 sons Ryan and Justin and it wasn’t a bad afternoon on the water. They ended up 5 for 5 with only 2 kings picture worthy. Temperature was down 95 feet over 160 FOW. 140 – 180 FOW seemed to be the hot depth. Dipseys produced all the fish today. Johnny will be back out tomorrow morning for a few hours with them again. Have another report tomorrow evening. Until then…

7.22.11 - Johnny was out with Robert Finger and it was a tough day on the water. They ended up 1 for 4. Temperature is up to 70 feet after yesterdays big blow. Will be back out on the water next week. Have another report then…

7.16.11 - Johnny was out with Omar from Minoa, NY and his 3 friends and it was a good day on the lake. The temperature was up 10 feet from yesterday and the fish are spread out but 120 – 170 FOW there seems to be a decent amount of fish around. They ended up boating 3 kings, a steelie, and a brown. They dropped a few others after a few head shakes. Dipsey rods were working in the early morning and the riggers were firing later in the morning. Look for temperatures to climb into the 90’s for a few days with only passing showers in the forecast. Hoping to get back out on the lake Monday or Tuesday. I’ll keep you posted. Until then…

7.15.11 - Went out on the lake to get the boat ready for king fishing to look for some kings. We ended up finding 2 nice ones (1 teenager and another one that weighed in at 24 lbs.), 1 brown, 1 little guy, and lost 2 others. We found fish from 100 FOW to 170 FOW. Copper and Dipseys seemed to work the best. Green and white color combinations were producing for us today. Johnny will be on the lake tomorrow with a charter. Have another report tomorrow evening on how things went. Until then….

7.11.11 - King, kings, everywhere there are kings…. And lots of them. From teenagers to big boys they are here!!!! From 120 to 300+. Down 120 seems to be the average depth. From out west to North of the Pond they are catching kings, browns, steelhead, and big lakers. This has been over a week since they showed up and the chatter from the boats is tremendous! Hoping the boat is back up and running…. The parts are in and hopefully it will be done soon so we can get in on the action!!!!
White and Green seem to be the colors of choice from flies to attractors. Copper out 400 feet was working really good yesterday!!!! NK’s are also a big hit for the big kings. I’ll have another report in a few days…..

Check Facebook for more up-to-date reports and charter specials!!!!

6.24.11 - Well lake fishing was on fire….. Lakers, small kings, steelies and browns… Oh my! 200 – 250 FOW was producing small kings and steelies. 25 – 85 FOW was producing browns. Everyone we heard from did well all day. Black and Silver spoons are producing the most fish. We will not be on the water tomorrow since out charter cancelled. We will be out sometime next week. Until then…

6.22.11 - Johnny was out with Scooter, his brother Tom, and his Dad Tom for a Father’s Day lake fishing trip. They ended up boating 9 browns and an Atlantic and lost a few others after a brief fight. The lake was a bit rocky in the morning from the passing thunderstorms but it also kept the fish active! They fished 35 – 70 FOW and caught fish on the riggers and copper. Johnny will be back out on Saturday with another charter, have another report then. Until then…

6.15.11 - Johnny was out on the lake with Chad Phelps and 2 of his buddies today and it was a tough day on the water. The wave forecast for 1 foot or less was way off. They were fishing in 2 – 4’s all morning. The did manage to go 2 for 5 on browns in 30 – 70 FOW. We will be off the water for a few days for some boat repair. Hoping to be back out by early next week. Until then…

6.9.11 - Johnny and Tiny went out on the lake to do a little bit of fishing. They managed to find some browns and a nice fat rainbow. They were fishing in 15 – 35 feet of water. They boated 5 and lost 4 others. Johnny will be back on the water Saturday. Have another report then. Until then…

6.7.11 - Johnny went out and did a little bit of lake fishing with Seaduction and the fishing was a little slow. They did manage to boat a nice brown and a steelie. Johnny will be back out on the water Thursday with Tiny. Have another report then…

5.29.11 - Johnny was out with Natalie, Chuck, and their 2 sons PJ and Dan and it was a great start to the morning but slowed down as the temps heated up. They managed to boat 10 browns and lost 2 others in 15 – 30 FOW. Riggers and boards were both producing fish. Reports were all good this morning for all directions from Oswego to Sandy Pond near the shoreline. Temperatures are heating up today through Tuesday with temperatures near 90! Hoping to get out and do a little fishing in the next few days. I’ll keep ya posted!

5.27.11 - Well it was an awesome day on the lake…… First timers, first charter, first limit…. Not bad! Bill Gearhart, Moe, and Dan had a banner day brown trout fishing on Lake Ontario. This was the first time they were ever on a charter on Lake Ontario and managed to land 12 browns and lost another 5. 15 – 20 FOW worked the best for us. It was a mix of action on the boards and riggers. 2 of the browns weighed in at 11 and 12 lbs… Johnny is hoping to get out and do a little fishing this weekend. I’ll keep you posted on how the fishing is. Until then…

5.25.11 - Well Johnny and I hit the Lake on our maiden voyage of 2011. Not bad, only a few kinks and we ended up going 5 for 7 on the browns in 11 – 15 FIW. Most of the fish were off of the planer boards, 2 fish came off the riggers down 3 feet. We will be back out on the water Friday for our first charter of the year. Have a report Friday evening. Until then…

5.19.11 - Well finally the boat will be in the water tomorrow. New stickers, charge up the batteries, and few small things to do and Lake Ontario here we comeJ

The river is really slowing down and the east winds on the lake have been making the bite on the lake a bit tough. Not many kings around but the charter boat having been finding a good amount of Browns and Atlantics. I’ll have another report once we get the boat in the water and are able to get some lines wet…… Until then…

Until 11:59 PM today, Thu, 900 CFS

4.23.11 - Well the weather hasn’t been cooperating but the fishing is on fire in both the lake and river. Drop-back fishing is unbelievable throughout the river even in the higher flows. Flies, egg sacs, pink worms, and night crawlers have been working the best. The lake has also been producing lots of browns! There have also been reports of some spring kings around and I also had a few reports of Atlantics between 8 & 12 lbs. Most of the lake fishing is still really close to shore in 7 – 12 FOW. Stick baits have been working the best. We are still in the process of getting the boat in the new boat in the water. If weather cooperates, we should be out sometime this week…. Hopefully. Hope everyone has a Happy and safe Easter. I should have another report by the beginning of the week. Until then…

4.16.11 - Due to flows exceeding station discharge capabilities and high reservoir levels, spill gates may be or are being used to control the reservoir. River activities are extremely dangerous and unwise. Do not venture into the river until flows have receded.

Caution! – Due to current weather conditions and potentially significant runoff from uncontrolled parts of the watershed, flows may change drastically from this forecast and special operations might be required. Please be alert for local warnings and use extreme caution near the river.

Until 9:00 PM today, Sat, 4,200 CFS

Pineville is currently at 3920 c.f.s.!!!!!

4.14.11 - Surf's up!

4.13.11 - Well last weekend the fishing was good throughout the river with the middle section reporting the most action. The fishing pressure has also increased throughout the river. The hatchery has finished taking eggs and the pens should be opening sometime next week……. So look for the fishing action to increase even more!!!! Anglers are seeing more and more drop-backs throughout the river with not that many fresh ones entering the river. Flies, egg sacs, beads, pink worms, and night crawlers are all working good. The water has been coming up since Monday (currently 1800 c.f.s) and we are receiving showers since last night. The surrounding creeks are also producing fish and if you are lake fishing, the brown trout action is heating up. Browns are being found near the shoreline in 4 – 8 feet of water. I’ll try to have another report tomorrow or Friday evening. Until then…

4.3.11 - Well finally spring has sprung. The sun is shining but the winds are still a little brisk. The upper Fly zone opened on April 1st and it has increased the fishing pressure on the river. Not great action this weekend but a mix of fresh and dropbacks are being caught throughout the river. Stone fly and egg imitation flies, egg sacs, pink worms, night crawlers, and beads are all producing fish. The surrounding creeks are also producing some fish.

Looking at getting the charter boat in the water in about 2 – 3 weeks if the weather holds!!!! Who’s ready for some lake browns and spring kings???? I know we are, we have dates available with a web special going on. If interested, call or e-mail and mention “Spring Browns” to receive the special rate!!!!

I’ll have another report in a few days. Until then…

3.31.11 - Well it is finally the last day of March and Steve Searle started the morning off with a bang! Steve had a great morning but the fishing slowed down as the day went on. He did manage to land 4 nice ones and lost another 5 on the Centerpin. Didn’t get into any droppies today, all pre-spawn fish. Johnny will be off the river for a few days. Have another report this weekend… Until then…

3.29.11 - Johnny was out with Ken Cestone and it was a day with a mix of fresh and drop back steelhead. All-in-all, Ken landed 4 nice-sized steelies and lost a few others. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. Johnny will be back on the river with Steve Searle on Thursday. Have another report then…

All published forecasts are estimates only.

3.2.11 -Johnny was out with Ken Cestone today and it was a day of change. The temperatures started out near 40 and by 9 am they were falling fast with snow showers. The winds also became really gusty as the day went on. Ken managed to go 2 for 4 on the bobbers and egg sacs. A decent amount of people in the lower end of the river today making it tough to get into the good spots. The winds also made it tough getting a good hook set when the float went down. Looks like a unseasonably cold day tomorrow with temperatures only around 20 but temperatures will warm a little from Friday on. Johnny will be off the river until Sunday. I’ll have another report in a few days. Until then…

Until 8:00 PM today, 500 CFS
From 8:00 PM today until 11:59 PM tomorrow, Thu, 900 CFS

3.1.11 - Johnny and Ken decided last night to push the trip to Wednesday due to overnight lows last night. In the morning, there was still heavy slush in the lower end. But the good news is that they are bumping the flows up a little which will open up a few more spots to fish. There was a good presence of anglers on the river yesterday and they were reporting getting into fish throughout the whole river on egg sacs and flies. There is also a good emerging presence of stoneflies around. It’s a good mixture of new and old fish. I’ll have another report tomorrow evening when they get off the river. Until then…
Until 7:00 PM today, 285 CFS
From 7:00 PM today until 11:59 PM 500 CFS

2.28.11 -Well we are back in NY today and it's windy with rain and temperatures made it up near 40! The river is still at 285 c.f.s. I had a few reports that fishing was good over the weekend throughout the whole river. Egg sacs and stonefly imitations were working the best. Johnny will be out tomorrow with Ken Cestone. Look for updates throughout the day...

Until 9:00 PM today, Mon, 285 CFS

2.18.11 -Johnny was out with Steve Searle today and it wasn’t as easy as it was yesterday. They had a little flurry of activity in the morning and by afternoon, lockjaw had set in. Steve managed to land 7 nice ones and lost a few other on the Centerpin and egg sacs. The temperature made it up to 54 degrees with spotty rainshowers. A lot of the snow is melting but another cold snap is on the way. High winds and lake effect for tonight into tomorrow.

Johnny will be off the river this weekend and if the weather cooperates, he should get one trip in before we head to The Springfield Sportsmen’s Show on Wednesday. I’ll have another update on Monday. Until then…

Until 9:00 PM Tue FEB 22, 285 CFS

2.17.11 -WOW!!!! Sums up the report for today. Who would of thought that there was soooo many fish around in low water? Johnny was out with Robert Finger and Brian Roeder today and they landed 21 fish. It was a mixture of steelies and brown on beads, egg sacs, & jig on the bobbers and egg sacs. They lost a lot of others. A lot of big fresh fish but some older darker fish were also mixed in. Temperatures made it into the mid 40’s with a few passing showers. Johnny will be back on the water with Steve Searle tomorrow. Have another report tomorrow evening. Until then…

2.14.11 -Johnny was out with Ken Cestone and despite the wind and rain, Ken managed to go 4 for 5 on the bobbers and egg sacs. Still a lot of shelf ice around but it’s getting really thin. Look for most of it to break up by the end of the week. Due to the cold snap tomorrow, Johnny moved his trip with Robert Finger until Thursday. I’ll have another report Thursday evening. Until then…

2.7.11 - Johnny was out with Ken Cestone today. It started off slow but then it picked up for a while but died off pretty fast. When the fish were biting well, Ken landed 4 nice ones, a couple small guys and lost a couple others. We only have 3 pictures because one of his fish was camera shy and flipped out of Ken's hands before Johnny could take a picture. Shelf Ice was difficult today in the lower end, there were limited places to fish. Weather-wise there's a cold snap on the way for he next 2 days but we're set for a nice warming trend over the weekend. Johnny' plans on getting a few trips in next week, and I'll have a report up with the results.

Until then…

1.29.11 - Well look like this weekend is the last “warm” days for a while. The temperature is currently 28 degrees and the snow has finally stopped. A good bit of the shelf ice has broken up, especially in the lower part of the river. Fishing the last couple of days has been good throughout the whole river. Flies and egg sacs are both working very well. The fishing pressure has been light. If you’re a snowmobiler, the trails are in great shape. We have been receiving a little bit of snow each day but nothing major. All of the East Coast weather has not been affecting us. Look for temperatures falling into the upper teens over the next few days until at least Thursday when they are predicted to climb back into the 20’s…. Finally February is here and Tuesday, spring is getting closer and closer but not fast enough!

I’ll have another report in a few days….

We are at base-flow levels until a big thaw or rain happens…lol probably not till March…Until 11:59 PM Mon JAN 31, 285 CFS

1.19.11 - Steve Searle was out on the water today with the Centerpin and it was a day for steelhead, browns, and a rainbow. Lot of nice fish around today. Steve landed 10 picture worthy fish (one jumper before they could get the pic) and a few small guys. The also lost a few more after a brief fight. We will be off the water for a few days due to the cold snap. But we are hoping to get out early next week. Until then…

Until 11:59 PM today, Thu, 285 CFS

1.13.11 - Well it was another late start due to slush, they ended up hitting the river after 12:30. The slush ice was heavy and lightened up by late afternoon. When the slush cleared they landed 5 steelies and lost another 2. All but one of the fish were small. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. Due to the cold temperatures and wind chill, Johnny decided not to take any pictures. Tomorrow looks like another cold day with temperatures in the upper teens… burrrr. Have friends coming up from PA this weekend, Johnny is hoping to get out again Saturday or Sunday to do a little bit of fishing with them. I will keep you posted. Until then…

Until 11:59 PM Thu JAN 13, 500 CFS

1.12.11 - Johnny was out with Ken Cestone today and due to stubborn cold temperatures they didn’t start their day until late. Ken did manage to land 2 steelies and lost 3 others. One steelie topped the scales at 15 lbs! Due to the slush ice that really never cleared in the lower river, they ended up doing a half day. Tomorrow Johnny is heading out on the river with Billy O’C and Glen. Let you know what happens. Until tomorrow…

1.2.11 - Johnny was out with Mark Paradise, Bruce Zero, and Billy Kobeski and it was a slow start but it slowly got better as the day progressed. They landed 10 steelies (4 small guys) and lost another 6 after a brief fight. It was a mix of fishing techniques. Billy and Bruce were fishing with the bobber and egg sac’s and Mark was Fly fishing. The water was up a little due to run-off but the clarity was good. Temperatures are back to normal and lake-effect is in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow with 10 – 20 inches predicted in the heavier lake-effect bands. Johnny will be off the water the next 2 days. I’ll have another report on Wednesday when he is out with Ken’s first trip of 2011. Until then…

Until 11:59 PM Mon JAN 03, 500 CFS

12.29.10 - Johnny was out with Sergei Reverdatto from Glenmont, NY and his 2 sons Mike and Stan and it was a good day on the water. Today was also Mike and Stan’s first time steelheading and they looked like they were pros! They ended up 9 for 18 (3 were small guys) on the bobbers and egg sacs. The fish wanted nothing to do with beads today. Due to the warmer temperatures there was a lot of anglers fishing the lower end of the river making it tough to get into different spots. But all the holes they fished, they managed to hook a few fish. Johnny will be off the water tomorrow, but plans on heading out on Friday to do a little bit of fishing with our one and only web dork Matt. Until then…

12.28.10 - Johnny was out with Steve Searle and it was a good day on the water. Steve landed 10 steelies and lost another 5 on the Centerpin and egg sacs. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. Johnny will be off the river for a few days due to the Christmas Holiday. He will be back on the water 12/28/10 with Steve Searle. Hope everyone has a Happy and Safe Christmas. Until Tuesday…

Until 11:59 PM Thu DEC 23, 500 CFS

12.21.10 - Until 11:59 PM today, Tue, 500 CFS

12.17.10 -Yesterday’s report…

Johnny was out with Ken Cestone yesterday and it was a slow day on the water. He did manage to go 2 for 4. The 2 fish that were lost were big steelies and the one fish that was landed was a little guy, too small for pics. All of the fish were old with no fresh ones around. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. If your coming up to fish…. Pack your snow shoes, there is about 2 feet of snow in the woods in the Pulaski Area with a little more up by Altmar. Our trip for tomorrow cancelled so we have no trips planned till Wednesday. Hoping to get on the water to do a little fishing ourselves one day in between there. I will keep you posted. Until then…

Until 11:59 PM today, Sat, 750 CFS

12.11.10 -Johnny was out today with Jozef and Robby today and it was a good day on the water. They landed 7 nice-sized steelies, a brown trout, a couple of skippers which were too small for pictures, and lost another 8 fish after a brief fight on the centerpins. Today was Robby’s first day landing a steelhead on the Centerpin and needless to say it was the biggest and first fish of the day. Johnny will be off the water tomorrow, but will be back out on Tuesday weather-depending….

Until 9:00 PM today, Sun, 750 CFS

12.10.10 -Well last year for Jeff L and his Dad Jay it was extreme lake-effect snow… This year it’s lake-effect (nowhere near as bad a last year) and frigid temperatures. They started a little later due to the heavy slush from temperatures that made it into the single digits. They did manage to go 3 for 12 on the centerpins with eggs sacs and beads. A lot of big fish definitely got away today but the 2 steelies and a bow they landed were a mix of old and fresh! The temperatures were suppose to get into the low 30’s but never made it out of the low 20’s. Johnny will be on the river with Jozef tomorrow. I’ll have another report tomorrow night. Until then…

Until 9:00 PM Sat DEC 11, 750 CFS

12.9.10 -Johnny was out with Ken Cestone today and it was a late start. They got out on the lower river late morning and still had to deal with light slush. But it was well worth the effort. Ken landed 2 big girls and lost 2 others. Temperatures made it into the upper teens and right now we are at 9… Burrrr!

11.28.10 - We are in the process of changing web hosts, so the site may go down or be unstable for the next few days. We're hoping to have everything up and runnng ASAP!

11.27.10 -Johnny was out today with Josh Hanford and his Uncle John and it was good right off the bat but slowed down when the first white-outs of the year moved in. They landed 5 steelies and lost another 5 after a brief fight. The winds were howling and the snow was falling so they ended up deciding to turning it into a half day. Johnny is off the river tomorrow, but will be back out on Monday. Until then…

11.26.10 - Johnny was out with Mark Paradise and Tom from PA. Mark was Fly fishing and Tom (who is new to steelhead fishing) was fishing with the bobbers and egg sacs. Even though the weather was cold and very windy, it didn’t matter much to the fresh chromers. All – in – all they ended up with 7 picture worthy fish, a couple of smaller ones, and lost another ½ dozen including the 2 biggest fish of the day getting off right at the net. Johnny will be back on the water tomorrow with Josh Hanford and his uncle. I’ll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then…

11.24.10 - Johnny was out with Dennis Barnes for a half day of steelhead fishing. Today was Dennis's first day using the centerpin and he managed to go 4 for 7, and 2 of the fish were too small for pictures. Johnny will not be on the water tomorrow, but will be out friday with Mark Paradise. Until then... Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!

11.23.10 - Johnny was out with Greg Saffares and John today and the fishing got better as the day went on. They landed 8 photo worthy fish, landed a couple of little guys, lost a bunch of nice sized fish, and had 3 doubles on today. Today was also John’s first time fishing with a spinning reel! All fish were caught on bobbers, egg sacs, & beads. The day also started with rain showers but ended up turning into a nice day with temperatures in the low 50’s and mostly sunny skies. There seemed to be a good amount of people around but the crowds are definitely less than they have been. Johnny will be back on the river tomorrow. I’ll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then…

11.21.10 - Johnny was out with Steve Searle today and it was the day of the big steelies arriving. Steve lost over 11 fish today after a brief fight but he also did manage to land 3 steelies and a bow. All fish were caught in the floats and egg sacs. Johnny will be off the river tomorrow, but will be back out on Tuesday with Greg Saffares. Until then…

11.18.10 - Johnny and Ken covered a lot of water and ended up 5 for 11. 2 nice sized fish and the other 3 were small bows. Lost some nice fish but could not keep them on. Found most of the fish in the slower water. Johnny will be off the water till Sunday. Until then…

11.17.10 - Johnny was on the river with Donald Gunster, and it was a decent day until the winds went from calm to over 40mph. Before the winds blew , they landed 5 fish but lost a bunch of others right at the hookset. Until tomorrow...

*My earlier report was redacted due to my web dork drinking too much scotch and taking the liberty of posting what he thought was funny. He is very sorry for this mishap, and will be severly beaten*

11.16.10 - Johnny went fly fishing again today and landed 6 fish and lost another 3 right at the net. We have pictures of the bigger of the ones landed. Johnny will be out again tomorrow with Donald from Boston. Until then...

11.15.10 -Johnny did a fly fishing trip on the today, and the lower river was fishing pretty slow. They landed two and lost a few others. He will be on the river again tomorrow with Mark Thibadeau and hopefully things will improve by then. Until then...

11.12.10 - Today we were out with Kevin McCarthy, his son Jarrod, Andy, his son, Paul, Danny, and his son Justin and it was a tough day on the water. We did hit the river for a few hours yesterday afternoon and it was also tough then. We did manage to fight a nice one yesterday but right before we could get it to the net the hook pulled out. We did have a few other hits but nothing major. Today we started out earlier and Justin (who’s 15) started the day off with a small steelie. A couple hours later he landed the biggest fish of the day. Jarrod was also able to get one to the net. Andy lost a few but did break the ice with getting his fish to the net! All in all it was a tough day but we managed to land 4 steelies and had another 10 on. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. There was also an increase in the fishing pressure in the lower part of the river. Johnny will be off the river this weekend, but will be back out on Monday. Until then…

11.10.10 -Johnny was out with Ken for a little more than a half day. Most of the fish today were on the smaller side- 3 to 5 pounders, but Ken did get one to the net that was picture worthy. We will be out on the river again tomorrow and will have another report up in the evening. Until then....

Until 11:59 PM today, Thu, 500 CFS

11.4.10 -Johnny was out with Ken and the fishing was a little slower. Ken managed to land 2 rainbows and a steelhead. He had about a dozen fish on and a few of the fish that got away were big. He also landed a few smaller fish. All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. Johnny will be off the river until Tuesday. I’ll update as best I can in between then…

Until 11:59 PM Sat NOV 06, 750 CFS

11.3.10 -Johnny and I were out with Shawn Sandison, Mike, Scott, & Jeff and it was a good day on the water with lots of chrome. The day started off slow but after coving some water, the fishing picked up. All fish came on the bobbers and egg sacs. All-in-All they landed 11 steelies, a rainbow, and lost another 7 after the hook set. Mike lost the biggest fish of the day right after we were able to get a look at the. This steelie was definitely an easy 20 lbs. Shawn booked this trip to learn how to fish with the bobbers and egg sacs. All of these guys have been fishing up here for a few years and decided they wanted to try to fish a different way…. Needless to say, they are “hooked” on bobber fishing. Johnny will be back on the water with Ken tomorrow. Have another report tomorrow evening. Until then…

11.2.10 -Johnny was out with Steve Potochney from Drums PA and it was a little slower than yesterday and a lot more smaller fish. He did manage to land 3 nice sized steelies and lost a lot of fish after a brief fight especially first thing this morning. All fish came on the bobbers and egg sacs. We will be back on the water with Shawn Sandison and a couple of his friends. I’ll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then…

11.1.10 -Johnny and I were out with Bruce Zero, Al, & Jim from Scranton PA and it was of those days that the only word to describe the day was “Wow”! They landed 9 nice size steelies (1 picture is of Dino, a former part of the group, that Johnny helped land a steelie for) a bunch of smaller ones (too small for pics), and lost countless others. There was even a time when they had doubles on! All fish were caught on the bobbers and egg sacs. Temperatures stayed in the upper 30’s with mostly cloudy skies. Johnny will be back out on the water with Steve Potochney tomorrow. Have another report tomorrow. Until then…. Until 11:59 PM Tue NOV 02, 750 CFS

10.30.10 - Johnny was out with Butch and Joey for a ½ day and the fishing was a little better but more small ones around today. They managed to go 5 for 12 on the bobbers and egg sacs. The temperatures are in the low 50’s, there a slight breeze, with only a light sprinkle this morning. Johnny will not be on the water tomorrow, but will be back out with Bruce Zero and 2 of his friends. Check out Facebook during the day to keep up with what’s going on. I’ll have an updated report Monday evening. Until then…

10.29.10 -Johnny was out with Jim Odlin and his son Marty for day 2 and it was a little better but still tough fishing. They managed to land 2 nice ones on the 5 weights and lost a few others but the wind and rain once again made fishing tough. Egg patterns seem to be working the best. Once again they covered a good amount of water and to only find a few takers. They also noticed that the water was coming up slowly due to run-off. Pineville was around 1000 c.f.s… Johnny will be back out on the water tomorrow morning for a half day. Another report tomorrow night. Until then…

10.28.10 - Well they had a good start to the day 2 steelies on and landed 1 on the Fly rods. Then all hell broke: loose the wind came up so hard & fast within 15 min you could barely see the water with all the leaves coming down. We decided to call it a half day & hit it hard tomorrow. After today, Jim & his son Marty deserve a good day tomorrow ......we will see what happens ....

10.27.10 - Johnny was out with Ken for his first steelhead trip of the year, and while it was a nice warm day in the 70's the fish did not want to cooperate. Ken did manage to go 1 for 5 on the bobbers and egg sacks, but they had to cover a lot of water.

Johnny will be back on the water tomorrow with Jim Odllin and his son for the first day of a 3 day fly fishing trip. Stay tuned for another update tomorrow evening. Until then...

10.25.10 -Johnny and I were out with Frank DeGaetano, Mal, Frank, and Mike (the new guy) from Conyngham PA (very close to our home town) and it was a great day on the water. They landed a mix of browns and steelies on the bobbers and egg sacs. They landed around 14 fish and had a couple more on. Mike (the new guy) of course was high hook of the day…. He started it off with 2 for 3 within the first 10 casts of the day and ended up with over 7 fish on including a nice big female brown! LOL! All-in-all it was a great day and a lot of fun. Thanks again Frank for the Iced Tea from home, it was greatly appreciated! Hope to see you guys next year! Johnny will be back on the water with Ken Cestone (his début of the ’10 –’11 steelhead season) on Wednesday. Check out Facebook for reports from the water. I’ll update this page Wednesday night. Until then…

10.21.10- Johnny was out with Steve Searle today and it was a tough day on the water. Johnny thought they were going to do much better, but the wind, rain, and leaves made it extremely tough. Steve managed to go 1 for 4 on the floats and egg sacs.

The leaves are probably the biggest problem right now. There are a good amount of fish around but they didn’t want to cooperate. Johnny is off the water for the next couple of days but will be back out on Monday. I’ll have another report then…

Until 11:59 PM Fri OCT 22, 750 CFS

10.20.10 -Johnny was out with John and Dave and it was one of those days that the mean, big steelies beat up the fishermen. The day started off slow but picked up later on in the morning. They were also seeing a lot of small fish but all the big boys wouldn’t even come close to the net. They did manage to get one nice one to the net but she was the only one that was photo worthy. All fish were caught on egg sacs and beads. Johnny will be out tomorrow with Steve Searle. I’ll have another report tomorrow evening. Until then…
10.17.10-Johnny was out with Rob Lavigne, Jeff, & Denny from MN today and it was a good day on the water. They landed 7 nice steelies (1 escaped before the photo op), lost another 7 or 8 after a brief fight, and they also were able to fight 6 fresh kings. A little tough landing the kings due to steelhead equipment J. All fish came on the bobbers with a mix of egg sacs and some beads. Johnny will b e off the water until Wednesday when he will be out with Steve Searle. I’ll have another report then. Until Wednesday….

Until 11:59 PM Mon OCT 18, 750 CFS

10.14.10 -Johnny was out with Paul Gebhard, Steve from the Woodlawn B&B and Phil. They had a great day on the water with a mix of browns, steelies, and some fresh kings. The fish today were caught on the fly rods (a new 11' 5wt TFO fly rod that we have added to our guiding rod collection) and of course the bobbers and egg sacs. There was one more nice fish landed but he decided to jump in the water on Paul before they got to take a picture! Johnny will be off the water till Sunday. He will be out with Rob Lavigne and his friends from MN. I’ll have another updated report Sunday night. Until then…Until 11:59 PM Fri OCT 15, 750 CFS

10.13.10 - Johnny was down the DSR yesterday and it was a slow day on the water. No steelhead around but he did see a few old looking salmon. The DSR as you knew it is now changed…. A lot! Johnny will be on the river tomorrow, hopefully with a better report…… The upper river is reporting good amounts of salmon and steelhead. The surrounding tribs have slowed down since the water keeps receding.

9.30.10 - Well we had a good day on the river yesterday with Bill Higley and his 2 buddies from PA. The 2nd picture pretty much sums up the day for all three of them. Fishing was consistent all day long on the water. Most of the fish were females with a few Jacks mixed in. We also seen a few steelies mixed in but the majority were kings. All fish came on egg-imitation patterns (actually most were on Johnny's Jaw-breakers in brighter colors). Yesterday is seemed like the fish were moving up pretty steadily with everyone around us also having hook-ups..... It finally looks like the rain is slowing down. The river is over 1800 c.f.s. and will be going up again in a few minutes. There is also a lot of run-off. I'll have another report tomorrow afternoon. Until then...
